Pinterest Updates!

I love Pinterest.  Recently I have been checking out my Pinterest page and rearranging the boards.  I had a few I completed deleted, who needs a board with less than 10 items?  I consolidated a few and now I am moving around pins to new boards.

I have a HUGE board with about 1800 pins, and its my DIY Projects board.  Instead of pooling everything together, I decided to split it up into boards that make sense, such as DIY Home, DIY Baby, DIY/ART Supplies, DIY – Sewing Accessories, Bags, Etc, DIY – Sewing Clothes, etc.  Still working through everything, but I know sometimes people only want a little information instead of a million ideas.  So this way, you don’t have to follow all my DIY Projects board just to get some ideas!  Hope you enjoy the changes I made!  Check out some of my latest pins below:

Refashion: Purse Makeover

I love to DIY and refashion!  In the fall I had this old purse I bought from a garage sale, it was one of those envelope style purses, pretty ugly tho.  I had this shirt I bought from a garage sale too, I thought hey, DIY makeover!   To see the previous purse, click here.  Click on any photo to enlarge them.

I’ve been dying to do another ever since, I just haven’t found the right purse or the right fabric.  Until now….dun dun dun!  My aunt participated in a neighborhood garage sale this past summer and I picked up this ugly beige/tan purse thinking it would be perfect for my next makeover!  Its been sitting in a bag with a million other items I am hoping to refashion (and then blog about!) for a few months now.  I finally went thru the bags of refashion items, found it, and decided to start it!

I have the perfect fabric choice, its a little girl’s black/white floral print dress.  I saw it at a garage sale and just loved the pattern, I knew I could find someway to refashion it!  The purse is kinda awkward to cover completely in fabric, so instead I am only covering the front flap in the fabric, and painting the rest of it in silver (and glitter!) and blue.  Blue is my favorite color, I have so much in my wardrobe!  However, I plan to use blue as a colorblock/pop color, so its only going to go like under the expandable pocket, or framing the mirror, or every other pocket, with silver and the sparkles in between.  In this way, it won’t really matter what I wear, blue will only be visible inside the purse which I hope to never forget to snap!

I painted the leather silver and added a powdered glitter that I found at a hardware store in the paint section.  A little goes a LONG way, so if you’re looking for a nice sparkle dust to mix with paint, I totally recommend it!  I only used the glitter on the silver parts, and I used the silver for anything that would be facing the public.  I wanted this purse to match any outfit, so the blue paint inside is mostly just for me.  You can see a little bit on the sides though, but who really looks there?  I used Leather Lace as the strap, I love the look!  It fits will over my head + shoulders and is just fun to wear!

I’m loving my end result!  I will admit, painting on leather was tough and I definitely recommend placing a layer of Mod Podge over all the paint, I had some scratch off problems before doing that.  I did Mod Podge the fabric down and again another layer on top, this seals in the fabric so if your purse gets wet, it won’t be gooey and dirty.  This way, water will bead up and roll off.
