PAD: Quote Me

Daily Prompt: Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

“Take me for what I am….who I was meant to be!”   ~RENT the show/movie/musical
Kinda self-explanatory dont’cha think.

“Remember that it makes absolutely no difference what other people think of you! We all need to understand that there is no such thing as perfection. Strive for excellence, that is achievable, and detach from what others think and say about you. If they don’t approve of what you do or who you are, let it be their problem. Be true to yourself!”
~John F Barnes, PT
Just what it says- Be True to Me, I shouldn’t have to change who I am so other people will think “better” of me.  I’ll be me and you be you.  Everyone’s much happier that way.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”
― Maya Angelou
Someday I am going to get this as a tattoo.  Maybe the shortened version though.  Its such a great way to try to live your life, these are the values and personality characteristics that everyone should display and our society might be moving in a better direction.

Stephen King: “Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.”
This is just funny, and oh so true!  Even though I enjoyed parts of Twilight, mainly Breaking Dawn (you know because suddenly Bella becomes a person on her own), Harry Potter is an amazing story and the movies have almost all lived up to the books.

PAD: Kick It

Daily Prompt: What’s the 11th item on your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list.  However on my 35 Before 35 List #11 is: Figure out how to use my Wacom tablet and make art with it.  That’s a good one.  Maybe I can try something this year.  It is my Year of Something New after all.

Then in my Year of Something New, my 11th month of November is: Family Time.  I will spend that month with my family and friends and reconnecting with friends who maybe I haven’t spent much time with or talked to often!

PAD: Just a Dream

Daily Prompt: You’re having a nightmare, and have to choose between three doors. Pick one, and tell us about what you find on the other side.

I used to have lots of dreams where I was dead.  Not that I saw I died or that I was killed, but that I was just dead.  I don’t know how it happened, I was in my dream and I just knew it- I was dead.  I didn’t find those so scary as un-nerving.  Something scary would be if I was killed in my dream.  I often get chased by bad people in my nightmares, and they typically want to kill me.  So far I have never been caught…

If I opened a door and I was dead, noone knew and noone cared.

Or I opened a door and was constantly chased by an unknown yet very real very large physical threat.

Yknow I always heard that you (the dreamer) being dead meant a big change was coming.
“Dreaming of death (whether your own or someone else’s) is not uncommon. What would be uncommon is that the message actually related to physical death. That is literally never the case. In fact death within a dream operates very much the same way as “Death” within the Tarot. It is a signal that this is a time of transformation. Not only that, but quite possibly life-changing transformation and it’s going to happen whether it’s welcome or not. And with that in mind the transition in life that you will be undergoing will be far less traumatic if you don’t try to fight or change it. The message is that this is change that is inevitable.” source

PAD: Me Time

Daily Prompt: What’s your ideal Saturday morning? Are you doing those things this morning? Why not?

Ideal Saturdays, hmmmm:

  • Sleeping in until 930am sounds like the perfect time.
  • Then a shower and getting ready for the day.
  • Quickly followed by breakfast and checking my emails and Facebook and blogs for about an hour.
  • Then I get started on my list for the day, which ideally would include a bunch of crafty projects….but in reality it usually involves cleaning of some sort because I’m not at all organized!

My other ideal Saturdays would be:

  • Waking up mid morning in my nice cozy warm bed.
  • Having a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper with my boyfriend.
  • My boyfriend making me a cheese omelet or scrambled eggs.
  • Bumming around and cuddling for an hour or 2 before we decide to do something.

This morning I did this instead:

  • Woke up at 830am after turning my alarm off about every 15mins since 730am.
  • Got dressed and then headed downstairs to move a remembrance stone/plaque outside.
  • Ate potatoes/eggs skillet for breakfast.
  • Did some general clean-up.
  • Waited for my aunt/uncle/cousin to get here for shopping.
  • Today was the Calphalon warehouse sale, booyah deals!
  • Finished my Christmas shopping.
  • Had Panera where I figured out they have nothing gluten-free on their menu even though a few months ago I was told the Tomato Soup was GF, also our cashier was unfriendly.
  • Hooked other people up with Christmas deals.
  • And all that before 3pm!

Cleaned my craft room today, it looks semi-organized!  Be proud. 😉

PAD: My Hero

Daily Prompt: Tell us about your hero.

I searched Google and this is what I found:

Google Defines Hero

Google Defines Hero

A person admired for courage or noble qualities. says a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.  Within mythology it means 1) a being of godlike prowess and beneficence who often came to be honored as a divinity; 2) (in the Homeric period) a warrior-chieftain of special strength, courage, or ability; 3) (in later antiquity) an immortal being; demigod.

As for me, I haven’t identified with any hero/heroine ever.  I don’t think celebrities, actresses, actors, rich people, are really anyone to look up to.  Just because you are famous doesn’t make you a great person that I should look up to and strive to be like.  Of course of course, there are celebrities out there doing really great things and donating money and volunteering their time.  And that’s great.  But I don’t want to “be like them”.

I think there are certain qualities in all people that I hope to achieve in myself.  I found this quote a few months ago and I absolutely love it, and agree that these are qualities I would love to possess and achieve daily!

PAD: Hobson’s Choice

Daily Prompt: If you had to choose between being able to write a blog (but not read others’) and being able to read others’ blogs (but not write your own), which would you pick? Why?

Easy Peasy!  I would most definitely choose to read others’ blogs.  Let’s be real here, I just got started with this and while this time around I’m actually doing a decent job, there are so many more inspiring blogs out there and with awesome ideas.  If I didn’t read blogs I would be bored and lacking a million ideas!

Obviously I hope to continue to improve this blog, but I love to read others’ blogs too much to let that go 🙂

PAD: Oasis

Daily Prompt: A sanctuary is a place you can escape to, to catch your breath and remember who you are. Write about the place you go to when everything is a bit too much.

I go to sleep.

When life becomes overwhelming a nap always helps relax me or gives me a nice cozy place to curl up and think!

If its really rough, I grab something soft and warm to wear, keep the slippers on even under the covers, and cuddle up with my penguin for some serious thinking or sleeping!

PAD: Audience of One

Daily Prompt: Picture the one person in the world you really wish were reading your blog. Write her or him a letter.

I love that my boyfriend reads my blog, especially considering things I write about are rarely of interest to him!  I hope that some of my friends and family are also reading this.  But of all the people that it would be awesome to be reading this, I would love if the bloggers I read and really inspire me, also read this.

I became obsessed with blogs a few years ago when I discovered Design*Sponge.  I spent like 4 hours scouring the DIYs and tutorials on that site.  How cool if one of those editors were reading this?

When I found Mod Podge Rocks! I thought, finally, a craft I could really enjoy and includes like a million projects with stuff I already have!  And it includes such a variety of DIYs, one thing I love to do is change the furniture, move things around my room, I like to switch up the decor a lot!  And what a better way than to Mod Podge something?!  I would love if Amy saw, read, and then featured something I make on her blog!  The ultimate compliment!

Then I found Resin Crafts and became obsessed about reading about all that.  Carmi is so talented and has such a simple way of explaining things.  I bought resin and it just sits in the box because I am so nervous to get started!  But I am slowing working my way through my crafts!  Maybe next year!

I absolutely love the SimplyCreativeBoutique blog.  I know she reads my posts!  I always love to read her posts and its nice that she is nearby geographically.

And my most recent love is Whispering Sweet Nothings.  I just love that blog!  Shane is so sweet and her posts are very real and many times they are positive images for all us ladies to aspire to.  I know she read my 7 Deadly Sins post because it was a linkup and she commented 🙂  That was happy.

Sure I love other blogs, these are just a few of the blogs that I almost religiously read.  Also, I would be incredibly excited and honored if they read my blog.  I gain a lot of inspiration from many of the blogs I read and find everyday.  I seriously read 20+ blog posts a day from several different blogs.  I’ve been trying to comment on more blogs, everybody loves comments, and lately I’ve been doing well.  When people find and read my(your) blog, it just makes you feel good that someone is liking what they are seeing and if they are return readers, I’m even happier.  I hope that I am inspiring people to try new things or encouraging them to be awesome.  Just like my favorite bloggers have done for me!

PAD: IMHO: Gangnam Style

Is the stupidest song ever.  The end.

Daily Prompt: Link to an item in the news you’ve been thinking about lately, and write the op-ed you’d like to see published on the topic.

This might not be in the “news” but its popping up all over the radio, at weddings, etc.  I hate this song.  Here’s the video, I hear you gotta watch the video to really “get” the song.  Haven’t watched it yet, don’t care.

OK, I just watched it.  OK, so its just this guy singing and walking around.  Then doing the dance all over the place.  And his backup dancers look bored through the whole thing.

Otherwise, I don’t really watch the news.  Its too depressing, I get my news on Facebook thru the news’ pages or on WP through various blogs.  Not much of person to watch the news.

PAD: Revisionist History

Daily Prompt: Go back in time to an event you think could have played out differently for you. Let alternate history have its moment: tell us what could, would or should have happened?

This is kind of easy.  It would go all the way back to grade school- that is, if I would listen to adults or myself at that age.  I would have studied the sciences and math harder and tried to better understand it.

Naturally going back that far I probably wouldn’t have done any of those things.  So instead, let’s go back to that last year of high school when I was applying for schools.  First I might have actually tried to figure out where my talents were, and what I could do with those.  Or maybe I would have continued and headed to UT for school, which I did, but instead I actually would have passed more classes and studied harder and taken the time to figure out the purpose of that stupid class that was supposed to help you pick out a major.  It didn’t help, I just chose the first thing I found interesting just so I could not take it again.

And then maybe after that year was a total fail, because let’s face it, it was; instead of heading out of UT and down to UD, I actually would have stopped to think about what I wanted to do.  Maybe it would have been helpful to spend that summer or fall before switching schools learning new things, shadowing/observing different professions, or traveling and working at various places to see what I liked.

But no, I shipped on down to UD, where I had some amazing 4 years and certainly don’t regret that, but I wasn’t focused.  I started in journalism because I enjoyed writing and editing.  I did that for a year, and then one day my friend told me how her roommate was studying for graphic design, and how she thought I would be great at that.  I was, I loved it.  But it hasn’t gotten me too far.  (Or maybe someone could have just said, FYI get an internship!)  I’ve had 2 jobs that related to that, and one I left for the other, the other I was laid off…hellooooo recession!  Haven’t been paid full time for it since!

I’ve gone back to school for Massage Therapy which I have worked and continue to do so a bit.  Then there are other health professions I am currently researching- thus why it would be nice to have a better understanding of math and science before now 🙂
